Okay, I made a parallel cable for Ti-86, but it gives transmission error 38 when trying to send files to calculator.

I use Windows xp and my mainboard is MSI k8t neo. I use wtran8x to transmit files. There is also an pc from year 1996-1999, if the cable won't work at new pc:s. But if that year 1999 pc isn't enough old, I have also 386 at storage :P

I have checked all the connections and wires etc. I use 1N4148 diodes and 560 ohm resistors. I also scraped some metal from 2.5mm plug so that it can fit in calc's port.

Edit: Not working at 1999 pc, gives some sparks and shutdowns the pc... Don't know if that destroyed the diodes :(

Edit2: Haha, it wasn't even parallel port where i tried to plug it... I need to change diodes and try again :D

Woohoo! Now it can send files from calc to pc. But not pc to calc. Do anyone have some tips? When I try to send something from pc to calc, it says:

Transmission link error 38

Well i dont know much about 86's, but whatever program you are using, i would check the troubleshoot. The reason why it says "error 38" is for us to go and look up what could have caused that error.

and that second line is obviously just what program you tried sending, it shouldnt mean much.

Iff Hydralisk has posted the above, the above is stupid.

I missed what program you're using, but if you're only having trouble transferring variables one way, you're probably just not in the right mode. Are you going into receive mode on the 86, or are you leaving it on the homescreen? The 86 has a silent link, so you shouldn't need to put it in receive mode, which is when you get errors like link error 38.

Ahh, I use the recieve mode. Trying silent mode now-->
Edit: Tried that homescreen mode, nothing happened. I use W32Tran8x

I don't know enough about that program to say, sorry.

It's very odd that it would only work one way.

Would it work if I change sending program? Because I could use 386 in dos to send files.

I can't seem to be able to send programs to my ti 86. I have a silver usb cable and trying to put in a chemistry program but it won't work. I am running it on a windows platform. What am I doing wrong?
