Total Posts: 1390 | Ok I wonder if anyone was planning to buy themselves a Xbox 360 Elite (the black one)? If you plan so, don't! Get the normal Xbox 360 instead. You'll save yourself problems and money.
Here's why I am saying so: Since I got this console I got nothing but problems. The first three weeks I got it it would take 5 or 6 minutes for the wireless controllers to get recognised. Sometimes the 360 elite wouldn't even recognize any of them so I couldn't even play. That was even if I had fresh new batteries. I tried with 3 controllers and same result with all of them. Now I don't get this problem as much as I used to, it usually take between 3 and 10 seconds for them to be recognised. However, the microphone that came with my elite stopped working the first day I used it. Now I got a new mic, and 3 hours later it would stop working at all. Like if it wasnt even connected. So I thought it was the mic that had a problem, so i got it replaced, however the other one was not working either! So I tried with all my 3 controllers in case it would be the controller, and still no luck. I have everything set correctly as well in my settings. Now I know it is the console, because one of my friend said he knew lot of people who had the elite and got nothing but trouble like this with it as well. Everyone he know who have the normal 360 (the white one) didn't got any of those problems at all.
I guess MS staff built those new consoles very quickly and reduced production costs, explaining why the new xbox 360 is so unreliable.
Not using mic doesn't stop me from playing games but try playing Halo 3 missions with a group of friends with no mic. This is not to mention that I can't connect to their games at all sometimes.
So if you want a 360, get the white one, not the black one.

Total Posts: 939 | I'm going to have to disagree with you on this. I don't pretend to know much about the 360, but I've heard from several very knowledgable people that the elite is much better than any of the other versions (excepting the halo version; they apparently use roughly the same innards).
The elite apparently is on the 65nm chips which put out a LOT less heat, and they have reworked fans and heatsinks as well.
On that note, I'm going to be going to get a 360 Elite in about a week so I can get used to it for a few days before Guitar Hero III comes out. |

Total Posts: 1390 | @Andy: I guess it is the entire (or a big part of) Canada xbox production that screwed up then, because over here everyone I know had those problems with their 360 elite with no exception and no one got problems with their white 360

At any rate, I don't know any people IRL that have had problems with a 360 (granted I don't know very many that have one to begin with but that is beside the point).

theyre trying to figure out whats happening.
if that doesnt suite you, there are "homebrew" ways to fix it. google it.
