Michael Vincent announces two projectsAndy
We have news of two projects to deliver to you, both of which are from Michael Vincent. First is the announcement of Emu8x, an emulator that runs on the 83+SE, 84+, and 84+SE (it uses the extra RAM on these models so it won't run on a basic 83+) and emulates the 82, 83, 85, and 86 (ROM images required, of course). Any crashes in the emulated calculator will not affect the host calculator, and you can save or load states in much the same way as you can in VTI. This project is expected to be released in April of this year.

Second is the release of Mallard, the first TI-73 Assembly Shell (or Assembly RAM program of any kind). Using a hacked backup file, much like the TI-85's ZShell, you can run arbitrary Assembly code. Michael has exploited this to make a shell similar to Ion for the 83/83+. In fact, the developer kit makes porting Ion programs extremely easy. At time of release, four games have been ported. Also, you must use TiLP to install the backup as TI Connect does not handle them properly. Your TI-73 or TI-73 Explorer needs OS 1.60 to run Mallard.

Wow! An on-calc emulator! If this truly comes out right, the 83+SE/84+ users will have all the simplicity of the 85/86! I guessed something like this would happen, but not so soon. Good luck, Micheal!

Yeah, that does sound cool. Though, how did they go about those 32 pixel screen difference when you go from 86 to 83/84?

I don't know exactly how it works, but something like holding ON and pressing left and right. There's some key combination, I'm just not sure what it is.

Michael said a while back when he was figuring that part of it out that the screen scrolls somehow, so I take it you are correct.
