Yes, it is life indeed and there's always someone to mess things up. Anyways, this time it was roms which caused up much problems and we went off for less than a week and now we're back in business. There are no more roms on the site and even reviews will be removed. We'll make the "misc" section our section to store various game maps. That was Barrett's idea and it looks great to me.

ROMs spiral, ROMs...they were the cause of our immediate removal from the previous host. B has received an email from our host who in its turn received an email from its ISP demanding for sites immediate deletion due to copyright violation (e.g. distributing ROMs, they don't care for our reason and we agree that we were wrong...according to the copyright). they said that if site is not removed they will take their actions forward. thanks to our host, everything was dealt with quick and we didn't get into any deeper trouble. as you can see, most traces of roms have been removed. we just don't want to get into any trouble because of such a little thing and will just continue to be a calc site not both.

Oooh, I feel sorry about what you guys had to go through with your host. Why doesn't a member of calcgames.org just host the site themself? You can do whatever you want with your Game Boy ROMs and everything then. I am planning on making and hosting my own website in the future. It's not too hard. One of my friends is hosting his own website AND a CounterStrike gaming server out of his room.

www.smokeybob.ca

If you have Windows XP you can do it.

it actually was hosted on one of the member's computers for about 2 hours... but the traffic would be too much since they'd also want to be able to use their computer. Currently, both of the webmasters have a cable connection so that makes things even worse. But we have considered it... and once one of us gets VDSL or something, we just might do that.

It wasn't that much for bandwidth problem, but mostly because separate computer would be needed. 3.5 mbit cable is more than enough for a server but for best performance serving comp should only be user for server. It wasn't that important and ROMs will most likely just get you in trouble like it happened with us. This is serious stuff and you don't really want to mess with it. This copyright thing is a big deal, its just that people are lazy to bother with suing someone, but they might and you should be cautious. Take if from us, play ROMs youself, don't host them.
