I was looking around on calc.org. I found out that TI-News' new url is ti-news.com for the moment and that a New version of Space Dementia is out. The new features are a Ship Editing with Edit 3D(was Solid Works), a Training mode, Kamikaze pilots, New windows, and a New title screen.

awesome, this game's getting cooler by the minute.

Digital, you might want to talk to Z or me on AIM about how to post news and stuff.

Umm, looking at his news article makes me think he already knows everyhting. Now on topic, I like Dementia but some more user friendly controls would be nice. Now a little off topic, it would be so awesome to have a Quake type 3D game based on Dementia's engine. I know its possible as I've seen a Quake game on an old Palm which ran on an 8MHz proc. It however had like 2 megs of memory and grayscale lcd. But still, I think its possible to at least have a wireframe FPS. That'd be so w00t!

Edit: hmm, for some reason when i post to news forums my message pops right on top of the page. this is weird coz it didn't happen before.

Edit 2: Actually, that happend on Teemz refresh and after I hit browser's refresh its all fine. I wonder what could cause that...maybe its just IE bull.

that happens to me too Z... a lot of weird stuff when i edited the news template... also, i made the discuss option and fixed some line break issues in his article, so he's not completely up to date on it.

I also got the same thing so thats why I e-mailed you both instead of posting. Z you also reminded me of an additional feature. Ther is also a new control set that alows 180 deg to left and right but I don't know if that includes joystick type movement.

Space Dementia's engine is not complete enough to support a 3D FPS because the rotations of the environement are not programmed. I don't know what a FPS would look like in wireframe.. but the thing is possible. There are some people who made (parts of) 3D engines with a "solid" display and rotations of the environment but their engine is not really exploited in a game.

oh motib, wireframe fps (privided that you can hide hidden surfaces...e.g not see thru walls) looks kickass. if you have a HW1 89 you can download Battle demo from ticalc.org's 89/asm/games archive. its really cool and was very promising upon reease but author never worked on it anymore after release. either way, Dementia is very cool! i just kinda dreamed a little bit.

Edit: umm B, what did you change in templates btw? i just don't see anything that could make posts pop up on the top unless refreshed. you sure you didn't leave "draw post" thingy in the code that shows just posted messages?...if you actually edited that one. oh, i've fixed some bugs in files.cgi (not really a bug, just some logical error) and teemz.cgi (now in-teemz news article doesn't show <> instead of comment link) so get a fresh backup of them.

before it showed news articles in a message box, now it's over the main black background accross the entire screen.

did you also notice that you can type right before "Post Reply" when you reply?

Z, if the engine can hide hidden surface, then it is not wireframe anymore ! It is simply real 3D.

yes, i know. what i meant to say is that you don't need any texturing stuff. only outlines if you put it that way. with hidden surfaces and no texturing less strain will be put onto cpu and possibly a decent framerate can be achieved. btw, if you look at SolidWorks, it pumps nice framerate even with over 200 surfaces. so, if lets say a rather detailed FPS would have maybe 50-70 at once provided that enemies are sprites and allowing for program code, i think its possible to have a real 3D FPS on a TI89. not on 92 series probably due to their huge screen.

UPDATE: Edit 3D is now v0.96. This is a minor update but convinient because it is now safe to archive the ppg.

On another note I would recomend everyone update to the newsest version of TI Connect. Previously you could only send programs to Archive memory for the 83+ but now you can do so with all the calcs! Anyone of us knows how much of a pain it is to stop archive everything then send more. Now it is much easier to transfer files in larger quantaties.
