Whoah, this looks very cool. It kinda reminds me of the other engine I've seen for 89 which was intended to pull out a Quake type game, though development seemed to stop. Well, I put a lot of hopes for this new engine and wish moitib best luck! Keep the good stuff coming!

You are probably talking about the Trinity engine : http://www.nonamefr.com/sBibi/trinity_ti/index.htm
Actually, the development is stopped now, for an unknown period.

No offense, but did you look at the code for that? It's a piece of crap. What happened to the french genius of yesteryear? Where are the Sonic Misadventures, and SF2T's ? :)

Eh, those guys who made the above mentioned games seem to have abandoned the calc scene. I guess they're in college or something. I hope moitib will at least keep working on his program, you learn as you go, maybe he'll be able to pull off some good stuff along with decent fps. And no, I didn't look at the code...never thought he released a source.

Which code are you talking about (piece of crap) ?

Yay, that was kind of rude but it sounds like he meant your code. I dunno, but your work looks great to me. And did you release the source btw, if not then I don't know what he's complaining about. To that, your games are free so people should be thanksful for all the time you put into your projects.

I have not released the code for the new engine.
If you are talking about the code for Space Dementia (althought i have written at the beginning that it is probably not exemplary), well just turn it into good code & email it to me :)
I don't understand why he talks about Sonic Misadventures (from the T3 team)...

He pointed those out as marvels of french programming. I don't know how he could say something about your code since you didn't release it, but oh well. Just continue the good work man, I think your game is very promising (and 20 fps if that's true, is really good for a 3d game on a calc).

Yeah, keep up the good work. I really want to see the game and engine when released.

Actually, the frame rate depends on what the engine displays : make it display 10 polygons and it will be very fast...
With a large scene it is slower, of course. I have implemented clipping so it slows a bit the program, but now i use matrix to rotate the points so i have gained some speed.

New Enginezkostik
well, obviously. that's the nature of any 3d engine. i was referring to your post where you said that general fps on a real calc is around 20. and yes, clipping is very important, hopefully you've got a good routine for that. just curious, what was the highest polycount you were able to achieve and still run 15 fps or above? thanks.

Sometimes it displays about 100 triangles with more than 15 fps...
But, despite of pure speed, my problem in the future will be to have a constant frame rate during the game...

Moitib, I have a suggestion about Space Dementia for you if you still plan on "developing" it. Sometimes it can be difficult to tell the distance of an asteroid/kamakazi. I think that if you added a grayscale feature to have the far objects light gray, mid-distant dark gray, and the closest ones black.

constant framerate shouldn't be a problem.... as long as slowest is at least 60% fastest it should be fine... Look at single player tankers... make a map where all 10 opponents are right next to you, drive around to see how slow it goes, then hold down 2nd to kill all opponents and look at the difference... that's probably 65% difference but isn't much of a problem

I have implemented black&white flat filling by now, but only on the ship... else it is too slow... I could probably ameliorate it with the technics i am using on the new engine. At the moment, i am not working anymore on it.

>Barrett
I'll see. In tankers it is probably not a problem, but in a game based on speed (a car racer) it may be more important.
