Hey, if I had money I'd help you guys out. But I don't have anything. Well, maybe a dime... But yeah, hopefully the ads work out. Maybe I'll see if I can get something from your store for christmas or something...

Hey, I bet Texas Insturments would be willing to advertise you, maybe, but I mean, they advertise you ( thats how I found this site out), maybe you should e-mail them or call them, they might work something out, I mean, if it wasn't for this site and my math teacher I would have never bought a Ti83+ Silver Edition!

I clicked on a couple of the add links, and they didn't lead me anywhere. Just got "No page can be displayed." That's a bad thing.

To BullFrog: Thanks, but we're not asking for money or donations even though they'd be appreciated. We're just trying to do something useful and have some spare money for the site. In fact, all money we earn from this (if we will...) will go for the site and if we do earn something you guys will definitely know. I'm sure many of you do buy games for your computer or console once in a while and if you go buy it exactly the same way but by following our link we'll get a credit. We'd also like to thank everyone that did/will use this link.
To largeandlarger01: Well, I'm glad you've found the site useful. The thing here is that we wish to have funds to be able to do more cool stuff for the site. I'm sure everyone would love to see a contest with prizes and such stuff but all this requires money and we already barely fit into our alotted bandwidth and may need to upgrade to a higher plan which will be more expensive. We'll however try to do our best to keep the site up and running.
To Billy: Hmm...this is strange coz all links work fine for me. I wonder why they wouldn't work for you. Have you tried refreshing the window to see if it comes up?

If you want to do ads, use GoogleAds. There are less ugly and actually make sense.

I like them anyway.

ads seem to be an inevitability of nearly every non-corporation site that has file archives/lots of users...sigh, oh well, it's not too ugly of an ad at least.

I was away for about a week, and looks what happens. You kids recked the house! :img04: :img13:

Well I'm glad to see we have a potential source of income for the site. I'm still on the border line of getting that mouse pad, but I have no computer to use with it.

We're still experimenting. Our first try didn't work so we moved onto the second one. They server random ads but we are given control over its general content. All content of our ads should be "G" for "General Audience" and none should be offensive or present stuff young kids shouldn't see. If however something like that comes up, PLEASE let us know. Also, some ads are animated and we also have control over that. If you feel that ads distract or in other words worsen you visit to CG, please drop us a note on that as well.

Thanks. Any input is welcome.

Don't overdo it. It'll only count unique clicks per banner. Different banner can get a click and pay. Clicking same banner from same IP will pay nada. So far, it appears they only serve PPC banners since we didn't get anything for PPI, this may cause us to look further...

I was kinda looking for a bit more than that. Yes, it'll pay for hosting but with that kind of income we can pretty much forget contest with prizes for a while. Either way, that's better than nothing I guess.

We're using a http://www.webhosting.cx hosting and their $15/mo plan. Though, we may need to go to their higher plan since we're gaining on monthly transfer. Why are you asking btw?

You may want to check out www.ace-host.net. I got webspace there for 5 dollars a month with 65GB bandwidth a month and 4GB space. It has everything too, like PHP, MySql, Frontpage extensions, etc. It's a great deal. I love it.

Thanks for the info. Though, form own experience this kind of sites doesn't seem to offer good servers. They're good for smaller sites but sites with lots of scripts (heavy cpu usage) and average-high traffic will go slow. I'll check your recommended site anyway though. Again, thanks for the info.

Its not that its a lot and we think the project's well worth it all. But, Barrett is paying all this out of his pocket and recent traffic may cause us to go over our bandwith limit and therefore require extra payment. We also want to have some extra funds for other goodies or what not. Everyone likes contests and chat parties and these are even better with prizes or promotion gifts (which apparently ain't free).

As far as servers go, cheaper ones aren't always what they seem. So far we only discovered that cheap hosts do not provide good servers and dislike heavy traffic although they do offer more disk space and higher traffic quota. But as we know it, you get what you pay for... Eventually, we may look into that, but so far we didn't find any good choices. We're alright right now btw, ad thing is just to accumulate some money for whatever projects.

Thanks for all your support everyone, we see that many care about us and click on banners and honestly, we really appreciate all that. Thanks!

anyway, whatever banners you see, please click them when you're done with your visit to the site. thanks.

Small ad is the same for me too. Though, I get around 5 large ads. This is due to our content and ad quality filter and prhaps...due to a relatively low number of advertisers. Its not like we need lots of different ads, what we need is clicks!

Small update:
I just want to inform everyone about the ad stuff. So far, we have $6.3 on our account. At this rate we won't make enough money to get prizes for the contest we thought of for xmas. Clicks also seem to decline despite the steady visitor rate. I encourage everyone to click on ads from time to time as we really need this. I doubt we'll get enough money to give a calc a prize, but hopefully we'll get money at least for some nice prizes.

Again, please click the ads, the more money we make the better prizes we'll be able to give out. And trust me, we will use the money for the site and not our personal use. So far, all money just leaves out pocket to run the site.

Thanks to everyone for support.

Yes, and the ads are old hat now. Thats why I don't click my arm off anymore.

Anyways,if we're losing money in the store-I think it should be closed. Why? Becuase not more than 5 people will buy anything from it-if that.

What ARE we losing money on, the hosting? Check for cheaper prices elswhere, thats the best bet.
25 Oct 2003, 18:24 GMT

Ad experimentingzkostik
You don't have to click your arm off since only one click per ad per ip counts. There are only two ads, so only two clicks can be received from any one user. If you remember to click and want us to run the contest, then please take a moment to click the ads. It only takes around 3 secs for each ad page to load, so you'd spend less than 8 secs clicking on ads. If you come here often, clicking on ad every now and then would really help us out and earn the money for prizes.

We don't lose any money on the store. Though, if nothing sells, we don't make any money either. It's just here...

Only hosting draws money. Though, the site is rather demanding and cheap hosts don't seem to work for us well. That we know from our own experince since we already tried quite a few hosts and we know people who did too. CG's traffic and server load is pretty high and cheap hosts may not like that or will not take any action to improve anything while our current host is very caring and always making sure everything runs optimally. We're very happy with it that is and as you can see are willing to pay for it and not complaining. We already mentioned before that ad money is primarily for misc needs, at the momeny is contest prizes. Though, contest will only happen if we earn a reasonable amount to buy some good prizes. Its totally free for our visitors to help us get money for the contest, they only need to click the ad. How much we earn will determine what prizes will be issued and if contest will happen at all...

To D: I think its around $15-20/mo. Something around that. Our host has increased prices since our signup too, if I'm not mistaken. Still, I think they're a very good host and I feel that they well deserve the money.

To calcfreak: That's okay. Thanks for clicking the ads, I really appreciate that. All you can really do is just click each of two ads once.

I was actually inquireing the about the amount of bandwidth we got and how much storage we have; then the price.
26 Oct 2003, 20:36 GMT

Ad experimentingzkostik
its their cheapest hosting plan with 15gig transfer, 600meg (used to be 500) storage @ $12/mo and next plan is very expensive (almost triple our current monthly cost). Yes, bandwith would go up to 50 gig and we'll get 2.5gig storage but its to expensive.

Also, looking at our current income frim ads, there will be no contest with prizes, or prizes will not be someting we wanted them to be. Almost a month now and we're still not even at $7 and only 1 our of about 132 people click on the ad. On average we get around .4 cent per successful click (large banner) and 1 cent for small banner, so you can do the math. There were only 373 clicks total and ads were shown 50k times. Oh well, this money will just go towards the server cost then.

$12/mo, nothing that scary. though, bandwidth overage is very expensive... our host did change plans around a bit, but they only added some extras w/t changing the cost. i thought they did change the price but they actually didn't so that was a false alarm so to be said.
