Halo 68k Finally released!zkostik
ti-89 is in a range of $130-160. in most places you can get it for either $140 or $150. this is a great calc. though, if you plan to get it for this game, then please check the posted date first...

by posted date i meant...this is an april folls prank. sorry bud, but there is no halo for the 69k calcs. though, there are plenty of other great games and of course usefullness of the calcs for thier primary goal, math. 89ti will have a total of 2.7megs of memory much like v200 but since it doesn't have a QWERTY keyboard it will be allowed in schools and standardized tests. if you're just planning to get a new calcs you might as well want to wait for the new series to come out. 89ti should be fully (well, let's say "hopefully") compatible with the regular 89.

i think it would be a good idea to take it out of the database. you never know when a noob is gonna come to the site and see the fake news item without reading the forums. as a result, they are going to download halo and one of three things will happen: A) they will blame the author for creating a bogus game, B) they will become severely confused and post pointless topics in the forum for help, or C) they will blame calcgames.org for all of it and will not return. as you can see, none of the results are what i would call 'desirable'.

Um, I have to admit, what is the thing the Chief is shooting at? I say, leave it up: What do the .zip files contain, anyway?

Halo 68k Finally released!BullFrog
A program for the 89 and one for the 92 Plus. I never actually sent it to my calc to see what it'd do though. Perhaps I'll try that now...

Edit: Displays the following. "Welcome... to... Halo" "press any key to start" "Sorry, this game does not work on this model of calculator"

Then it ends.

this file should be removed. this is an april foolks prank and thus shouldn't remain in the archive. it'll just make people upset, that's it. we had it for two days already and can keep a few more but it should be taken out soon. if you don't want to take the time to remove this file B, then let me know and i'll do it myself :).

lol Drantin, ppl will start harassing you eventually. we probably already have around 20-40 candidates. hehe

i had an email already... :)

you guys want to see how long it'll take people to realize its a prank? well, on ticalc people were downloading that fake megaman vs capcom for months and months and no one could play the darn thing. then someone opened it in notpage and it turned out to be filled with "megaman vs capcom" every line to make up this 60+ kb file size. well, i'll let the file sit a bit more but once people start asking i'll take it off.

Once people start they probably won't stop for a while lol, considering the rate of repeated questions in these forums and lack of searching (i.e. not reading the manual or reading the FAQ).

I didn't realize that it was a prank until I saw the realese date which was about the time I clicked on the download button so I tried it out. then I looked at the file in comand post plus and saw that it was almost all zeros.
[edit]
wow now every one will know right away. is it really nessisary to be that blatant though?

Yay! Halo didn't even come out for other systems because of their limitations. Only xbox and pc...and now what, a ti calc? Well, I remember how they ruined Splinter Cell by porting it onto ps2 so maybe it's good that they didn't attempt to do so with Halo. If they did people would probably get bad impression about the game. Btw, new Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow is really nice. I'd say its way better than its predecessor (I have a pc version of course).

Correction, Halo has also been out for Mac as well (ducks form Z throwing his monitor across the nation at me) ;). My brother just got SC: Pandora Tomorrow, it is pretty slick and, from his reaction, it is a heck of a lot better.

I say you should make a practical joke program section for programs like that, "virus" programs, etc.

BTW, the only reason i think womeone would ever believe it is if 1) they didn't know the calc's limitations [a.k.a. n00bn3ss :D ] or 2) they're too bored with what games they have right now (but that's pretty darn hard :).

Halo far exceeds the processing power of a calculator. It's impossible to do a direct port w/o the source code.

i know a way where you can make your ti-89 hw1 or hw2 (the ti-89 operates at 10MHz) to operate at 2x speed (18-20MHz). if anyone is willing enough to make a halo version for the ti-89 i will tell him how. :)

even 2x speed wouldn't cut it. if you're implying to resoldering the c6 capacitor to gain some speen then it doesn't quite get up to 20MHz and eats batteries like crazy. not to mention it throws the internal clock off so other games will be not playable. even a doom clone don't come out on the calc. oh speaking of processing power, i'd like to reference to a pocket PC which have real full scale versions of Quake 1 and 2 but to run these babies full speed you need 300+ MHz proc. that's coz everything is software emulater and no dedicated gfx chip to take off the cpu load. though, N-Gage with its 106?MHz proc and no gfx chip does faily well for itself but on a much smaller resolution than a PPC. again, you can most definitely forget about halo, maybe if someone actually manages to get a decent doom clone out we should be happy with that.

Doom is very do-able thanks to FAT.

Halo 68k Finally released!spiral
I think Doom has z-axis movement, which FAT doesn't support.

Doom also has 3D geometry which FAT doesn't support either. though maybe with the 3D engine from moitib's Space Dementia Doom may be possible but i'm not too sure the framerate will be playable. would be kinda cool to have Doom on 89 tho.
