Hey everyone, do you guys think it would be cool to have one file randomly selected and featured on our home page every month? Or would you like having to vote for files or rather not have this at all? I'd like some feedback on this one. Thanks.

i like the voting idea.

this would take some work, but here's what i see:
on each page have a button that says "nominate this file for FOTM", but you only get to nominate 5 or so files.

the 5 files with the most nominations get to be voted on for 1 week after each month.

Do you think we should have FOTM for like each category? since a much superior file 1 could get beat by another file (file 2) just because more people have the calculator that file 2 goes with.

well, this gets a bit complicated. we can also have only one file. however i propose a solution to this. let's say we have votings for each category, but then we still need to select a FOTM, so what we do is figure out overall percentage of votes for each file in each section to other files in same section and then decide which most popular file from each section has higher percent. i just unsure that this is a fair way since lower number of files in particular section will give files in that section higher percent. so, it kinda seems that just having voting for all files in whole is better.

file 01/83 /-- /
file 02/83 /-- /
file 03/83+/- /
file 04/83+/-- /
file 05/83+/- /
file 06/83+/---/
file 07/89 /- /
file 08/89 /-- /
file 09/89 /-- /
file 10/92 /- /

lets say those are our voted files and dashes are votes. our first look probably falls on that 83+ files, right? but if we look more close, we notice that most files are for 83+ as spiral said. so what do we do now? how would you decide which should go for FOTM?

yeah... this is where ticalc.org failed... that's why they stopped doing POTM... so we need to find a fix before we start doing it. I had an idea a while about a rating system integrated into POTM - after we get all of the nominations in, 1 for each calculator, we let everyone rate each and every file (with a BIG note, "RATE ONLY FILES YOU HAVE TRIED"... still not perfect... but i don't know what is

another idea, we have 1 winner for each category, then for the big one, we select a small group of individuals who have at least a ROM for each calc and can be trusted not to be retardes about it to pick the overall winner.

that sounds too complicated B. i say we just forget about all of this rating and stuff and just randomly select a file every week and feature it on our page. this seems to be the most fair way of all. this way people won't start saying it wasn't fair or anything and noone will keep voting their own files. and this way is also much easier on us. we'll just add another window on front page for File of The Week and off we go.
