Okay, we will host avatars for certain members in our community.
Below are the qualifications for that:

You must be an active user with at least 30 posts or a moderator/administrator of a forum.
You may not be a new member, sorry. We'll host avatars only for senior and junior members. That means you should have been around for at least few weeks or so.
Your avatar should be appropriate in content (this goes to remotedly hosted avatars too!) and should not exceed 8kb in size. You may have up to 10 avatars hosted so you have something to choose from depending on your mood :).

So you may say why do we have these qualifications? This is to conserver our bandwidth in favor of speedier downloads and faster server speed. If you wish to have your avatar hosted, please contact me or Barrett and have your avatar(s) attached to the email (this is provided that you meed our qualifications).

Please ask away any questions or post comments. Thanks.

You sure this won't be like the Titanic to our bandwidth? 30 posts seams too low, 50?

At pcclub you need 500 just to have your own custom avatar! 1,000 for animation! Now thats some qualafications! I don't think we should make it 500, but I don't think 30 either. Its not really my decision, but I think 100 isn't asking much. I mean, why host an avatar unless they';re avtive-actually, now that I think about it, only active people will really want their avatars hosted here. Besides, when you think about it, they might abuse it and use it for a different site. I think 100 is fine. If they don't have 100 posts- then they can just hang around calcgames more.

Sure, make it 50 D. Besides, we always have a choice... Btw, we have plenty of extra bandwidth so we'll be okay.
The reason for not making a 500 post limit is that we don't want people to spam forums to hit their limit. Also don't forget that we still get to decided whether to host one's avatar or not. So, its not like we're going to host everyone's avatar after they get 30 or 50 posts. We'll only host avatars for senior/junior members that are active on our forum.

I think 50 is a good #, b/c this board is populated by a relative few, there simply isn't that many threads to increase post count by posting in.

Yep-this site has got it all people. You've really been working hard. I'm glad that you're allowed to decide-it makes it a much better idea. :)

"Sure, make it 50 D."

Do you mean you made it? I don't have access to those reasources, let alone if I did I wouldn't know where they are :img29:. Since we have the bandwidth, I see no porblem. Thanks for the update. I just finished an avatar a short time ago. There are no words to describe it except "nauseating." Its no gross but just extremely wierd. Too bad the thing is really heavy ~50KB. I will make a grayscale/chrome one to see if I can shrink to colors down as well as size...

Really? Sweet! I've changed mine-I figure that calcgames.org could use some colorful stuff! I think it's better-a nicer fit than before.

The other one was getting crammed-this avatar is just a smaller version of the orginal pic.

I could change avatars once a week if I wasn't so lazy, just a matter of cutting down all these pictures my friend burned me.

yes, my sons! it is now time for an avatar rotator option!!!
just kidding, but hey that may be an idea for my future coding. :img29:

oh btw, does anyone think that user's profile should display their avatar/sig too or just leave it as it is now?

cleared one of D's semi-double post. Maybe the Avatar coudl display in user profile even if avatars are selected off. That way people could see them if they wanted, and it doesn't take up much of their bandwidth

Yeah, I thought so too. In any case, I'll add this to my "to do" list.

Z: I might give it a try, but right now I'm busy optimising the drawing routines because they take up so much space. I've also had to redesign the 240x128 file viewer because of some indescrepancies. The new design fits but it will be a little tricky implimenting the string drawing routines. To make things easier, I've made them harder, but hopefully not too much. In other words, I'm busy and I don't want to add to the load. My first real semester in college has showed me much of what is wrong with my time management...

I aslo noticed that my avatar was over 300 KB, so I switched it (and that dog avatar was cool!). I don't know if this is okay . . . I actually had no idea Barret that my avatar was that big! I'd never want the site to load slowly on my account! Maybe you guys should make a definent limit-not take over avatars over 200 KB or something . .

Maybe I'll change my avatar sometime; seems like everybody else isn't lazy like me.
And if you do get the time D, some snow added on the calcgames logo would look festive for the winter season :)

It's been exam week for me so I've been visiting less than usual.
