Seems as though when I sumbit the files, in a zipped, compressed folder, calcgames.org won't take it. It doesn't say "Thank you for submitting your file", like it usually does. What it wrong? I was trying to submit a zipped compressed folder with the following:

1) One screenshot
2) One program
3) One read-me
4) 9 pictures (for the game itself)

This was for the "Love Orli Club." Any suggestions as to why it doesn't work?

To who? Maybe I should e-mail it to Z, but I'll still get credit for it being my work right? It won't be Zkostik's work . . . . .I hope!

do you think that Z is that selfish with author stats? We could have made every work on this site belong to Z, or B, and yet it wouldn't matter at all.

Why do you have to involve credit and author stats into everything? Why not take the view that by submitting the program, you're giving it to the public to enjoy and use in pretty much any way tha they want (besides desecration), and expecting nothing in return.

Well, it seems to me sprial that you're getting rather angry sometimes. When people accuse you of anything-you just go off your rocker. Why do you always get so mad sometimes?

You'd rather accuse me of something, than tell me how to upload a file!

Why am I concerned about downloads? Well, I like to know that I did a job well done, and that my time was not for nothing, that people have downloaded my game, and that one day, when my games are better, people will rush to download anything that even mentions my name!

i think the day people rush to download anything that mentions youru name is quite far off.

I don't handle file uploading, never tried it, i didn't write the site.

On the other hand, you implied that Z the co-creator of this site would steal your stuff. That's more than a little too paranoid.

No, I just thought that he would forget to ssay I was the author, not put the right homepage, put the wrong description, put something wrong.

"i think the day people rush to download anything that mentions youru name is quite far off."

Well, it may seem to be that way-but I am commiting myslef to make a simple shooting game, the game we all want! Very simple, very easy. I'm commited. Wait and see . .

But, now back onto the subject of zkostik:

Z, will you submit my file with the following information if I send you the files?

yes, the upload script is rather old and the new one never saw its release date...
user underscored instead of spaces. sometime spaces throw the script off and it doesn't uplaod your file. this may actually be perl's windows path translation since XP tends to use long folder names with many spaces and sometime special chars. if your upload fails or doesn't show up when i add files it may be due to that perl/script problem. you can always email me the file if you feel there's a problem with uplaoder, just don't misuse that option. and no, i'm not going to make your file mine. :) just make sure you include all the file info in your email (author, description, name, calc model, shell?, etc.)
oh yes, like spiral said i could do anything i want. mwahaha!!!! but most like i won't...

>but most like[ly] i won't

Do you try to give me material to make fun of your laziness Z? I can go on most anything...

To calcfreak:
The only thing Z forgets is to upload a file or make changes. I can't remember one time when he gave himself credit for anothers piece of work. Here in the calc community (extends way beyond calcgames.org) there is an unspoken respect for everyones work. Plagerism or stealing is simply not accepted. FYI

Wait a minute, calcfreak thought Z would forget to put an author name or website on a file if you e-mailed it? Even if he did, it would be found pretty fast...

And I don't think a BASIC shooting game is 'the game we all want.' No, we want complex ASM games for shooting games...

And I'm not sure if ANY people will download a game just because a certain person made it... no author has that much respect, but some are pretty close...

Also, most people don't really pay attention to calculator news, I would guess, most people don't even notice when patrick davidson (the most popular author) releases yet another version, say from 1.2 -> 1.3. Also, his platform game, smiley something was released pretty much with no publicity.

You can't even compare to patrick davidson in program quality or programming skills, and you expect to exceed him?

Well, Digital, allynfolksjr, spiral, since you seem to what to insult me so much, do it in my e-mail, why must you do it here on trhe forums?

I get the message . . .you hate me, but I'm not going to leave calcgames.org any time soon.

Calcfreak, no one tried to insult you. It was more of a constructive criticism, so don't take it personal. You just happend to ask a silly question so you got an appropriate reply. Even if somebody was a little harsh on you, just let it go.
We all make mistakes from time to time, just take it easy and don't get upset about little things. We're a community here, so let's try to have fun and learn from each other!

Yah, your ego is big, to quote from your latest readme,

"I am a prestigous programmer at calcgames.org, with my own forum. I have made many games and I program in BASIC."

I'll let others be the judge of that.

>Besides...I've made a lot of games-I think PRGMJOKE was awesome, btw.

You demonstrate his point by saying this. Ever heard of the old adage "quality, not quantaty?" I have only produced 7 files or so that directly contribute to the calc world. 4 of these are tankers map files. I have not even released a program. Only recently have I helped beta test games, which is no easy task with a good game. In other words, I've hardly done jack! Given that, I probably hold more respect and am more well known because of the quality of what I type (read speak). I'll also let you in on a little secret if you want others to see you as smart, do say that you are show that you are. Bragging, inflating your ego, or anything that praises your work that is not said by others about what you've done that is accomplishing exactly that. The sun does not say it is bright, it shows us; winter does not brag about how cold it will make you, it just freezes your but off. Get my point?

Of course I've picked on you here, but as Z said (as he has said in the past) you brought it on yourself but asking a lot (not all, you have had good questions) silly/stupid questions. This post is considered constructive criticism, btw.

Edit: I think myself or another admin should close this topic within a day or two

Okay, lets put an end to this. Btw calcfreak, being an admin doesn't give us the right to do anything we like. And D wasn't exercising his admin right at all, he was just trying to show you that you've made a mistake. Don't argue on this one, just think into what he said because it has a lot of meaning. D made a good point about quality of software and it is what makes people well known in calc world. Yes, there are people who make a lot of junk and are know as being the ones who made the most junk programs, but I doubt any decent programmer would want a junk maker reputation. I'm not saying anything about the quality of your programs or number of them, but proclaiming your skills with only basic programs is not a very good way to make people recognize you more. Have you ever seen me, B or D go out and proclaim our skills or our programs? I guess not. We instead let our programs speak for ourselves. You can do that too.

I'll let a few more posts added to this topic since some may want to reply to the above said. I'll however close this topic tomorrow or later this evening.

dang, Z stole the words from my mouth.

Find a BASIC programmer with the reputation of Patrick Davidson, Flashz, Patrick Pelliser (sp?), or for Z80, Sam Heald, etc.

And, look at the top-downloads list on Ticalc, only 2 programs this week, and 1 in overall, are BASIC programs, yet there are far more basic programs than ASM programs.

I guess you've pretty much summed it up here...lets not lecture calcfreak any more on this forum.

But if you want respect, name-recninzition (Sorry about the spelling), and, I guess what you want, downloads: you gotta consistenatly make quality programs that are entertaining, origional or a very good remake, and ASM programming always helps.
