Lol, nice. Though, does that mean that that company just claimed ownership of the entire moon? That's mean. I can imagine it now:

"Wow, I just landed on the moon!"
"I'm sorry, sir, but you are under arrest for trespassing on private property."

This is rediculous... I could almost see it if we were colonizing the moon, but we aren't...

They are using the legal basis of homesteading. So their reasoning is that since nobody else has claimed it, they can sell sections of land that you can "claim." They did say that they told the US government that they were going to do it, and since they weren't answered, it must be okay.

Edit: I used "they" too often in the past sentence.

Actually Nikky... I WORK at a homestead ina living historical site. Where I have to dress up like a homesteader and everything (It's fun!) and I know that the homestead act went out of effect sometime during the 1980's, therefore, this is probably illegal.

Well, "they" was actually just one guys who claimed the Moon like 27yrs ago and it ehem "a legal owner" of it now. He then started this company and sells land on it. I suppose the moon can be colonized but there just really isn't a whole lot of use for it since they didn't find much useful resources on it. And somebody has to fund that whole thing too. That'd be kinda cool to see a Moon colony though.

That reminds me of a Heinlien story I read once about a guy who bought the moon. An interesting question was brought up in the story; Was the moon already owned by different countries at different times when it would be passing through their airspace (even if it was x miles from the ground of the country)?

And if you want to be picky, the US did actually send people to walk on the moon, and planted the flag, so isn't that a form of claiming it? It isn't valid, I know, but a discussion point.

I hereby claim all unclaimed areas on the surface of the moon in the property of the Joe C. Corporation (JcCorp(TM)). For partial ownership rights of said land, please send me a PM for more details and how much money you have. I will need it all.

<_<

Meh, it was worth a shot.

Yeah, we know about that one. It doesn't occur in opera, so I'm not too concerned.

The US may have landed a man on the moon, but wasn't it the Soviets who tried to paint the moon red by crashing probes and satellites with red glitter and such onto the surface? If so, then Russia might have some claim on the places where their "red tide" hit.
