I got a Dell laptop (9300) and ipod 4g (40 gigs) in preparation for college. Both are really fun. Specs on laptop, 1.73 pent. m, 80 gig, nvidia go 6800, 512 ram. screen is super wide so watching movies/web browsing and everything in general rocks.

Cool, we recently got a Sony A790. Very nice piece of hardware, it also has a sick screen resolution of 1920x1200. We got it for my mom's portable photo editing stuff when she goes on trips and stuff. Congrats on your toys guys.

yeah, 19210x1200 is a really nice resolution. The wide screen format is pretty nice too. It's not quite as good for games though. I was running Battlefield 2 at 1400xsomething with all medium settings and it was working pretty good so I'm pretty happy.

I'm going to berkeley. Go Bears!

Nice, I live about an hour from berkeley. Actually, though, I live 2 minutes from stanford and have always liked them better. Good luck, though.

re widescreen and games, well my laptop has a 16:10 1280x800 screen, and any decently coded game supports that resoultion. It's crap games that have a list of resolutions coded into them that suck (ones that don't as directx for a list).

well 1920x1200 is bad for games because it's not displaying at native resolution (mayb SLI gfx cards could do it), which for LCD's, since each pixel is a color. So if i don't play games at 1920 (virtually impossible), then it's not as sharp.

Down with stanford.

yeah i know... people keep telling me to lower my res to get better frame rate but it's too fugly since 1280x800 is the only 16:10 resolution it supports...
