ha, ha, ha........

you got me. wow.

However, to make this thread's title accurate, I will do the kind favor of copying one of my favorite quotes from a philosopher. The quote is from Ludwig Wittgenstein, and has been taken from his book on the philosophy of language:

"....Philosophy aims at the logical clarification of thoughts. Philosophy is not a body of doctrine but an activity. A philosophical work consists essentially of elucidations. Philosophy does not result in 'philosophical propositions', but rather in the clarification of
propositions. Without philosophy thoughts are, as it were, cloudy and indistinct: its task is to make them clear and to give them sharp boundaries....." (Tractatus Logico Philosophicus; Wittgenstein)

I'm actually reading Republic by Plato-- it's literally reading a conversation that is going 1 mile per hour...but the slower you go.. the more scenery you get to see.

The Republic remains one of my favorites books. I have three different translations of it sitting on my bookshelf!

For those who do not know, The Republic is a book in which Socrates and his friends try to describe what the ideal, perfectly "Just" uptopia would look like. :)

I have to take a detour on my reading so i'm only on the first few pages..
I hate reading for English.....
--I have to read"My sister's keepr"
it's about a genetically engineered girl that was created so she can be a perfect match for transplats to her sister who has a weird type of leukemia... the girl sues her parents for the rights of her own body.....
---I brought this up because ---
-it brings up the ethical issues and possibly a good debate.

That's wierd, i saw a CSI (my favorite tv show) episode that was like that a few days ago! A girl was born and given part of her brother's DNA as she was concieved so that she would be a perfect match to his blood type, etc. to give him stuff. The boy in the family had an absurdly rare disease and no one else both could and would give him blood, bone marrow, yadda yadda, and so the family decided to have another baby just to keep their son alive. Anyways, the girl died and they were trying to figure out who, and it ended up being the boy who was getting the bodily fluids from her, and he said he did it because he didn't want her to suffer. Twisted, huh?

nah, the best car is the Porsche 911 Turbo S. Porsche is coming out with an all new Porsche Turbo this summer. It will have like 500 horsepower, 0-60mph in well under 4 seconds, etc...........

.......And, I'll get to drive one this summer. The sweetest thing I driven (okay, not drove, really. But I did get to drive in inside the service area) so far is the ultimate porsche (It's as fast as the Ferrari Enzo): the Porsche Carrera GT! The dealership where I work has one of only 40 in the entire world in stock.

Bugatti Veyron 16.4 biatches. 1001hp, 0-62mph in 2.5 sec, 252mph top speed, and $1.4 million dollar asking price. Amazing car.

......except, with the buggati, you paying far too much for what you are actually getting. Sure, it's the fastest production car in the world, but it's hideously over-priced. And given the danger of driving at high speeds, you will never really be able to appreciate the difference between how the Porsche Carrera GT and this bugatti perform.

just my person opinions, anyways.. :)

I know. Try the Corvette Z06, if you want pricing to matter. 505 hp, 0-62 in under 4 sec, current price is $68,500. Extremely nice car.

Yeah, for the "price-vs.-speed" aspect, the Corvette may win. But think about how many corvettes you see during the summer. They are all over vthe place! The Porsche Turbo is a far more refined, more rare breed of sports car. Only the elite rich can afford to own a Turbo. A corvette owner could not even buy a regular Carrera.

......just my opinions, anyways... :)

BTW:
I've driven the new mustang. Hertz uses them as rental cars (I kid you not), and they are not half as good as I expected them to be. :(

I quite enjoy the mustang's new design, but they have been a disappointment in terms of performance since the shelby age. If you're looking for performance from ford, look no further than the Ford GT roadster. 500+ hp, but expensive, I'm pretty sure.

I'll give you that for performance verses the cost, the Ford GT wins, hands down. Although let me remind you that the Porsche GT has 612 horsepower, and will beat a Ford GT.

I've only seen one Ford GT (outside of Internation Auto Show in Detroit) in my life. I was working at the dealership one night, and a guy pulls up in his Ford GT to drop off a customer (appearently, the GT owner was a friend of the customer, who was coming to the dealership to pick up her car from the service department).

I got to talk to the GT owner, all the while hoping he'd offer me a short ride. It did not work. :img21:

i assume you are a senior....1988...
i wouldn't want to risk my nice car on a relatively new driver.

True, but the dealership trusts me. I am the only porter who has been given access to the new car keys lock-box (Its accessable only through a fingerprint recognition system), which holds the keys to the $475,000 Porsche Carrera GT --- which I have moved a very short distance at one point.

Secondly, the dealership's general manager has set a rule that states that "no employee under the age of 18 can drive any of the vehicles". I have been the only exception to this, despite the fact that there are employees who are only one year younger than myself who are not allowed to drive the cars.

So, If that GT owner had known me better, I might have at the very least, gotten a ride. Darnnit. I've ridden in a customer's brand-new Ferrari before. I'm relatively confident that the Ferrari is worth more that the Ford GT. And besides, how much damage could I do if I'm just RIDING? :)
