well...in friday...my friends and i were prank calling some people we know.

Now there is one girl who I only see one a week. My friend wanted to prank her...

I thought he was just going to ask.."is your refrigerator running?...better catch it!"
but he pretended he was me and asked her on a date....she said OK or yes or something like that...

I wouldn't mind going out with her(she is sort of cute to me) but she lives far... at least 20 miles away...Ifelt bad.... so I told her my friend pranked her....I think that sort of hurt her....but it doesn't show.
(evidence that it may have hurt- she was surrounded by her friends who were acting unusually happy-you know..OMG high pitched yet small screams that go like "Ahww!" then after, i said it..it seemed to go quiet)

Did i do the right thing? Should i have just gone with it?

should i just wait for another opportunity for another girl. or go back and say i lied to cover up?

thanx for reading my excessively long post

Hmmm... well, she is your friend, and they clearly didn't find the prank funny... so I would show your pranking friends that that last call was very mean and go apologize to the girl in person, and if you feel brave enough, say that you'll take her out to lunch or something. Since you're shy, it'll be hard, trust me. I'm incredibly shy around girls I like (and outgoing around those I DON'T like, which leads to some interesting crushes on me) and I keep finding it hard to even talk to them. But don't give up, and keep in mind that this girl was embarrassed in front of her friends, which to a girl is EVERYTHING. So you have to realize that this girl feels awful and that you should either try to make it up to her. Of course, she might decide to pull a "I hate you." Hopefully, that won't be the case.

Good luck!

If you prank call me, I will do what I have been doing since I first started my website:

I will publicly post the prank-caller's phone-number on several forums I frequent, requesting that the members prank-call that person. It's very effective. ;-)

Prank phone calls... In your case Zedd, Good luck and God speed!

We used to call 800 numbers, and the pranks fell along the lines of when Japan was trying to take over the us in South Park, and they kept tellin the guys about how large their manhoods were. Oh yeah we had fun with that, especially when it was a woman receptionist...

And of course I was the one that got to talk to them, because I was the only one that could sound like someone from Japan...

Gah! In her eyes, you probably acted tactless and I can't say that's not to be expected of a young girl. Anyways, you should probably slap your friend for putting you in the situation to begin with. The way I see it, there are 2 other things you could have done: 1) you could have rolled with the relationship, but that would have most likely involved some lying and misconceptions and, depending on the type of person she is, could have ended up being a lot more hurtful to her than saying it outright or 2) You could have taken a more median route, telling her that you did like her, but not as much as your friend pretended to have.

Just my humble opinion.

No, you shouldn't have gone with it, and you should try to make it up to her. I may not be very social, but I know a thing or two about making people happy. As for what L said, that is probably the best idea, but try not to be too arrogant, i.e. in a way that says "I sort of like you, but not much". Next time you see her, you could also try starting a converstion with her, and then, within it, apologize personally for the call.

P.S. Amazing - it would usually take a few days for a topic to accumulate 8 replies, but once you start talking about girls - BAM! - 8 replies in a matter a few hours. We obviously have a few Romeos on the site...

Not me. I may comprehend a humble few of the incredibly large number of mental intricaces of women, but I in no way pretend to be good at getting them. Because I'm not. And on the point of understanding, I would like to make an incredibly geeky metaphor: Women are like the Heisenberg uncertainty principle, the more you know about one aspect of them, the less it is possible to comprehend another aspect of them. Sad, but true.

I'm not sayin you are a dumb-...arse, but they are probably right, you should have taken the chance to go out with her. HOWEVER (a big however): it's not over. Ask her again, and try saying something like "and this isn't a prank" to her. REMEMBER: laughter=good. Try to be funny, but if it doesn't work, i.e. if she doesn't have a sense of humour or yours is incredibly annoying, DON"T OVERDO IT! Trying ot be to funny is worse than being completely serious. I hope that helps.

A guy and a girl going out isn't like signing a contract of marriage or something. I have gone on several dates with girls who are just my friends - nothing more - and have had a blast. You shouldn't just find one girl and stick with her. Date a variety of girls to see what kind of girl you'd really like to stay with. I'll stop there before I start sounding like a parent (if I haven't already)...

You made the right first step with explaining to her that it wasn't you who called and made the date. Honesty is really a good thing to have between friends. However, I would suggest taking her out to do something. (I mean, you never know - you two might hit it off.) Even if it just for lunch, as mentioned before, or even just for ice cream or something like that, go for it.

By the way, it sounds as though she might like you. The fact that you received a negative response when you said it was a prank should give a rather obvious indication that she was hoping to go.

I have to agree with BF, but I must say, things are quite different in college (dating-wise) than high school. I haven't been to college ersonally, but I have had many people tell me that dating is more of a casual thing in college, whereas in high school it is actually percieved, sadly, as more binding than that. Not that I'm saying this is right, because I'm not, but that's how it is where I live. Also, I have gone out with girls before without us actually being boyfriend/girlfriend. But, at least where I come from (uber-liberal Cali), as soon as the word date pops up in a sentence, Everyone always assumes there's a relationship going on between the two involved parties. Quite frustrating, really. So, to sum up my mini-essay, I'd say go with BF's idea of asking her out again, alone (that's vital), but DON'T CALL IT A DATE.

Have fun.

one more problem.....
as i mentioned before.. she lives at least 20 miles away from where i live. She in NYC-- me in Long Island...(suburbs)

an idea--
The location in which i see her is sort of like a secondary school.
this year is graduation out of the middle level. I'm permanently leaving and not going to the higher level but will graduate.
so this is just a thought....
when year book signing comes along...maybe i thought it would be easier for me to write it in the back of her book than just saying it to her. (if all else fails)-- is this a good thing. or should i avoid at all costs. I thought it would be more dramatic... not that i care butit certainly might have an impact

In this case, you could arrange with her to meet somewhere. Or you can take advantage of the public transportation system in that area (I'm assuming one exists there).

As for writing something in her yearbook, don't. Sure it might be cool and all, but why complicate things? All you need to do is call her in the evening or talk to her when she's alone at school (if that ever happens, anyway) or something.

point i'm trying to make is that this relationship is complicated.
and if i could just pick up the phone nonchalantly i WOULD..really!
...But i think she wont trust me on a phone as well.
and time! I think the first step is to gain a better understanding... then shoot for the gold.

Seriously, just get to know her as a friend first. Even if it doesn't go any further, you'll know she doesn't hate you, and having a friend that's a girl, but not so far as to be a girlfriend is a truly great asset, and, i.m.o., better than a girlfriend.

Then write her a short note explaining that you would like to talk with her at her earliest convenience (maybe not in those exact words, but similar) and give it to her. Arrange for a time that would give you enough time to say what you want to say. I know it's rather childish, but she might enjoy such things.

As for the complications of this relationship, there's not much I or anyone here can do unless you want to share them. I imagine you wouldn't want to do that, though. (Just a wild guess...)

Whoa... 1 minute response. holy crap.

As for the note thing, if she does like you even a bit, she is probably going through the same thing as you right now, and, thereby, would probably be relieved if you did so.

Basically, you'll never know how things would work out unless you find out. The worst that could happen is that she'll never talk to you again, ruin your life, stalk you, slash your tires, call you at three in the morning or generally make your life miserable...

But hey, such is life.

You could always have someone drop you off in her general area and then walk to whatever it is you end up doing. A little exercise never killed anyone. As for your schedule, you can make it work if you really want it to happen.

There is the possibility that she doesn't care about you. At all. I mean, she could just be one of those girls who is nice to everyone because that's just how she is. I've run into a couple of them myself. However, don't just assume that - find out for yourself somehow.

As for any other ideas, just one. Suck it in and give her a call. Even if you sound like a complete moron on the phone, at least you made the effort. (And, quite honestly, there are girls who like that.)

And if all else fails (someone probley already said this) give a simple apology and say "but hey, if you do want to go on a date still, I'm down with it." That way, it's up to her if she wants to do so, and the pressure is off of you.

Well...i would Love to put the pressure on her.

But she is not a strong person..... she'll definitely crack under the pressure... I'm most likely handling it better than she would.

That WAS a plan though.... But fortunately, i had enough blood flowing through my brain (see sig).

Wait a second! How come none of the admins have cursed zedd out about that yet?

Anyways, why not just alleviate the pressure alltogether if she can't handle it? How you ask? Easy. Just clarify everything in your relationship. Tell her the honest-to-goodness truth when you talk to her next (which you must do soon) about asically everything. This will not only throw around 1000 pounds worth of weight form your shoulders, but the same from hers most likely, as she is probably stressing about what you think of her.

Just another two cents from me. But again, nothing is foolproof when it comes to dealing with the fairer sex. Women are more volatile than your average nuclear bomb and can go from 0 to 60 attitude adjustments in around 6 seconds.

me....i'm calm

i just don't take abuse..... and i thought i might as well put as much info down as possible so that you, Neostar, can understand.

and you were right...it isn't that serious.....
it was just your defensive reaction to the members trying to let you know the nature of the topic or the nature of this site in general that was.

and.... you do not have to leave as long as you are able to accept responsibility..(and promise not to shoot at everything coming at you)
and on another note... i don't think it is the defendant who is the one to tell people to calm down.... although i do understnd your frustration.....
So..ask yourself one thing.....are you up for it? or will you just leave?..... think about it....

if you decide to apologize or at least just make a resolution to stop..... i do believe the majority of CG will forgive and most likely forget....
