hey everyone...i am new so i have to say "HI". Well my main interest is in the ti-89 so that is just a little fyi...but my question is what is the best grey scale converter program out there? Ones that convert color pics to calc greyscale pics...i have downloaded many of them but none of them fit what i need and have....some need shells which i can't put doors on my calc b/c of the 2.05 ams version and it is hw2 and the main pic viewers i can't put on either b/c they need doors also...i do have one pic/animation viewer forgot the name but it opens pics/animations that are saved as expressions so i was wondering is there a converter program that will save it as a expression? i am not to skilled in this stuff but i would like to make my own pics just for the heck of it...i am not a real great programmer...i know some basic but what i know keeps me happy so that is all that matters to me atm...i will learn more latter one though...well thx for any help in advance and i love the site =).

I used some french program, which is a kernel program, but i had a eight-gray library for hw2, which didnt' flicker too much. I've heard of a new tictexpv that supports eight grays from tict team, but i haven't tried it yet. To convert, i think like picview or soemthign has one, i have it on my comp, it's much better just to get a wallet-sized photo, or get somethign portable w/ a color screen

you CAN use doors os with AMS 2.05. all you need is a patch, which you can get somewhere on ticalc.org

yeah, you need a HW2patch updated for AMS 2.05. you can find in on ticalc.org and it should say that it's for 2.05 i think. also, try using Universal OS as it runs Doors programs and i think it doesn't need that patch. Tictexpv is alright but crashes too much, pic viewer worked better and both programs have problems with 8 gray pics (the appeared messed up for me on 2.05 HW2). hope this helps and btw, welcome!

for SC to come to live we need helping hands with graphical work. and there's a lot of it! we got something done already but much is needed to be done and our graphical workers are currently very busy with their school and unavailable to work on the game. if you know someone who can help out, we'll provide all the stuff only thing is needed is some kind of paint program and free time, but one doesn't have to be graphical pro or anyhting. anyway, thanks for the interest and i'm happy to help with anyhting so lemme know if ya need anything.

hey again...well i could help yall out with it....i know very little basic as i said but i will try to help you out in any way possible..i think it would be really cool for me to help someone make a game..especially star craft =). so if you need any help plz e-mail at rpgamer22589@sbcglobal.net or just post back here. i am open for any help anyone needs and i will try my hardest to finish it. I do have a lot to keep up with school though but when i get home during the week i usually take a long break and could work on it then and i have most of the weekends to do w/e also. thx for all the help and hope i can help =)....also i have one more questions...when i install universal os on the vti it installs fine but on the real calc it just get a black bar at the top and the calc frezzes...i couldn't remember the reset buttons at the time but after about a minute my calc turned off....and the black status bar came up like i had reset my calc yet i didn't...however all my files and stuff were still on the calc...i thought that if you reset it it would clear your whole calc...and they were archived....and just a quick stupid question but does crashing the calc mess anything up? just curious...like software wize..

I use preos, there's a new version out on www.timetoteam.fr.st (and there's a new version of sonic, dont' think there's too many changes tho). It also has an 8-color(or 7 if u dont' count white) grayscale library that works fairly well for HW2. make sure u have the hw2patch, or the tsr that does the same thing installed.

well another things is that...when i try to install it, it says this isn't a ams 2.0-2.04 calculator. Or something like that. so it doesn't in stall....but i think it does install on the vti.

scree...i never got that gray7 lib to work. mind dropping me a copy? i'm dying to try it out. i've seen gray7 on HW1 and it was awesome, i wish it could work bettern on HW2.
to RPGamer: you don't need to know any programming to help with SC, all you need is spare time, some sort of image editing program (paint shop/photoshop/etc.) and some knowledge of it. here's basically what needs to be done:
-take the full gif animation from SC (supplied, can be extracted into bitmap frames if needed)
-cut off extra frames to only 8 direction (includes some image mirroring)
-scale it down / convert to 4 grays (those require some playing with contrast, scaling options and color options)
-save in bitmap format

the rest that includes converting to calc files and programming is done by us. we need people to help with gfx because there are TONS and TONS of it! so, if you think you can do any of above, let me of Barrett know and we'll supply you with gfx pack and tools. thanks.

The gray7lib that displays seven grays isn't actually the gray7 lib anymore. I think u can download the whole thing with PreOS, in downloads, recent downloads, PreOS, version .64. The gray7lib just points to the graphlib for the 7 gray functions. Works on mine, HW2, 2.05. If you REALLY want DoorOS (why tho? imo, it's old compared to preos, and not updated) i remember there was a version off the site that was updated just to support 2.05 (http://doors.ticalc.org ). If you send me an e-mail (my address should be in contacts, then i'll send you the version of the program I use, I also used a hexeditor and made a copy that's all in english, which involved changing about 2-3 words :)

when i refer to the program i use, i mean the program i use to view 7grey expr images. Also, if u delve into the boards of tict.ticalc.org, they had a 7 grey lib version of tictexpv up, i might have an old-ish copy, haven't tried their grey-scale routines.

strange, that image proggy you sent me spiral says "new kernel needed" even tho i got latest PreOS, which you said works. dunno, maybe i'm not getting something. i'll see if mem reset helps.

update: okay, a reset helped as it usually does. now i need to go find some 7 gray pics. shouldn't be too hard tho.

Tell me how it works, it's too bad ti-fr decided to close, they had some stuff not availible on ticalc, like total destruction or sometihg, a pretty good rpg w/ missions, and it was even in english. they had lots of grey7 images too. I also have a tool that can take any pictures and changes them to executables in grey8, i think it's in windows section of drawing tool on ticalc.org, u can also adjust contrasts and brightness.
