MirageOS is a shell for the TI-83+/SE series of calcs. For 89 there are PreOS, UniversalOS, KerNo and others. Many programs also come as "nostub" which means that they're exectuable and don't need any shell. Other older programs may need a shell and possible libraries, get UniversalOS in that case. Though, about all the games we have here are nostub (look at the Shell label to see what you need to run your programs).

PreOS is the best for programs requiring shells. Another benefit is that you can easily get the version that launches TICT-EXplorer (a good interface for deleting/launching programs)

Kerno isn't a kernel (another word for shell), it's suppose to help you NOT have a kernel. It's purpose is to help nostub programs be more stable.

All the others are not updated. DoorsOS is ok, but nothing for it is better than PreOS. Same with UniversalOS

Also, if your calculator is one of the recent models, you'll need a hw2 patch, either the one that modifies the ROM of the TSR. If you want to use Kerno, you'll need to install one of these.

PreOS comes with a version that patches it for you, which can be useful.

Yes, but if you don't want any kernal games, which I myself only have a few, I keep a copy of h220xtsr (the TSR patch) on my calc. I actually think TI made some software or hardware changes to the V200 that make it more stable for TSRs. You still need the patch most of the time, but there are a few TSRs that don't need it.

Maybe we should post a hw2 patch here along with some other kernels? I think that's about time to do so anyway...

Yes, MirageOS is a shell, in which you play games. Look for a game that says it needs the shell MirageOS to run. (make sure it's a 89 game). Test it out, I like MirageOs alot.
