What is all the fuss about Halo83.5 and removing it from the archives? Well ofcourse it's not a direct port from the Xbox. It's a calculator fps that uses Halo guns and bad guys, so it's Halo for the calculator. Basically the screenshots tell all. If you don't like the game don't keep it on your calculator, it's that simple.

Copyright infringment. Since we are responsible for what is in our archive, we decided to remove it. We had a similar problem only a week or two ago.

Actually, you need to rename the file. We will have to remove it because it can not use the copyrighted name. This problem wasn't noticed for a while but with recent influx of traffic and many downloads, this problem is very noticeable. Please don't think its because of our lameness or because your game gets many dls, but the while thing is first misleading and second, illegal. Please rename your game to something that's not copyrighted and resubmit it. Else, we'll have to take it down at the end of next week. Sorry about that, but we have to do that.

We will rename our game, but what about games like Super Mario, your number one downloaded game which is also copyrighted, ,or Final Fantasy, or Asteroids, or any various other files in your archives. There is a double standard here, but we will play ball with you guys, however I am not sure you have a firm grasp on copyright laws.

In my opinion, you named your game "Halo" to get downloads. No offense, but it's basic and it sucks. (Unless you have an SE, which I don't...) You want to compare with Super Mario, Final Fantasy, or Asteroids? Then write the game in asm, and make sure it's good.

Currently those games are not in production so the hype about them is over. Here, someone will actually care about marketing your game, which should not even be compared to the real thing fo robvious reasons, so it is more likely to get noticed for what it is [not].

Its just lame naming something a popular name that its is not. If your game is good it'll get downloads with any name but it'll take time for people to learn about it. Right now CG doesn't have that many files, so each files gets more attention than say each file on ticalc.org and you can take advantage of that. Your game has a fine rating for a basic fps and that's from people who tried it. Many people just get it for its name and that's not how this should work. The game however has nothing similar with Halo besides the name you gave it and thus shouldn't be called it...The rating/review system will still tell you how people like it, even if it'll have a different name.

Well we are already working on a new version with a diffrent name, which we will upload before our one week deadline is up. All I am saying is that your copyright argument is invalid.

Also, to Bullfrog, we were not comparing Halo83 to Super Mario, Super Mario is a great game, but what we are saying is that it doesn't matter if it's basic/asm good/bad, or in production or not, because in the terms of the copyright argument, using another game's name is the same no matter what game it is, thus there would be a double standard in accusing Hays of violating copyright laws and letting it slide with other authors who do the exact same thing. But since nobody is profiting from any of these games it makes little difference.

Finally, the only reason we are changing the name is because people feel mislead by the game, not because of copyrights. The only way we would change it on the basis of copyrights is if we would have been asked by Microsoft directly.

yay! I must say this turned out much better than I expected it would, and I am pleased with the result.

This chalks up one positive mark for haysgames (against its (imo) bad advertising and the ruckuss is once made while I was part of Assembly-83 mail list from ticalc)

from what i see it as, it's less of a copyright infringment, as a clone issue..

Mario and tetris are very exact clones of the games they they share the name of, but with Halo83.5, it is not a copy of halo, or not a very exact one...

it's like me calling hicktest something like Warcraft, people would download it, but it would be, well, unethical...

alright, changing the name will do. also, your description should be more about your game rather than orignal title its supposed to be like. i'm glad you're taking steps to correct this problem. if possible, please drop me and email when you've uploaded your fixed version as i
'm only checking the uploaded files folder once a week. thanks.

Why twice a week? it's not like people upload that much, i'd much rather have Z spend extra 15 minutes helpign people out on forums or tweaking code.

Well, make it into a compressed folder, which you can do by going to:

File
New
Compressed Folder (zipped)
and put the contens in there.

Don't e-mail it to Z, or YOU won't get the credit for making the game yourslef, now would you?

Hey thanks for telling me how to make a .zip file, you should write a tutorial or an FAQ.

i never said not to email files to me. if uploader doesn't work, that's okay to do. files should only be emailed to me when folks are having trouble with uploader, and this does happen as we know it. you can include any info along with your email as you would with your upload.
to calcfreak: this is a problem with uploader. sometimes file paths mess it up and it stops working till user data file is cleared. if this happens, i'd appreciate if people let me know. a new uploader is being worked on from time to time but since we don't get a whole lot of uploades, the new version isn't being rushed.
i only check uploades once a week because i don't have much free time. and i agree with D on his note exaplaining "why not twice a week".

I haven't had any problems with the upload over the past while. The fact that I've uploaded only one file in the past month or so probably has something to do with that.

Okay, Halo 83 removed and its new version, Space Commandos added.
Obviously, you will not be able to get all the downloads back. But haysgames, email me with what you think a fair amount of downloads your Halo got (not because of its name or description) and something will be credited back to your new file.

don't worry about adding any downloads to it, we are not concerned with how many downloads we get.
