Hey guys. Obviously, im knew here. Im not knew to forums, but new to this one. I signed up to ask a question that I could not find an answer to:

Can games from lower calculator models be played on hidger models?

I just bought the T-86 calculator, and the USB cord to get games in. There seems to be a lack of games, so I was wondering if I could get games for the T-83 and hook them up, and if they would run properly. I was lucky enough to talk my dad into getting the calc for me, and if i can take advantage in the games, i will. But, there are only around 10 games for my model, and like 20 for the T-89. And, most of all, i want a Mario game!!!

I apoligize if its a stupid question and if it is answered elsewhere, but im lacking the time to find it.

The calculators are classified into groups bassed on their processor type. It is done this way because the code (ASM) used for the games is processor type specific, in general. The TI-89, TI-92, TI-92plus, and Voyage 200 all have a MC680000 processor and are dubed 68k calcs. Unless a program is compiled specifically for one of those four modles, the program made for the 68k calcs will run on all 68k calcs (Except for the 92 shich has no native ASM support). I'm not very familiar with the technicallities of the z80 type calcs so I have to let someone finish up what I was saying (Z, your turn).

z80 games won't work on 68k calcs and visa versa. There are some rules about which games will work within the series of calcs but I only know the rules for the 68k calcs.

MC68000 proc D...I'd like to see the MC680000 though :)
On 86, there's an emulator that lets you run 85 and 83 games. I don't quite remember the name though but you can find it in ticalc.org archives. I agree with you on everyhting else D. On z80 calcs its the same thing as you've mentioned about 68k. Programs are almost identical, but to run on other model they need to have their header changed and recompiled. Also, due to some other features distinct to different calcs, programs are coded for series. Like 83 series, or 85 series. program coded for any of the calc in the series is in most cases very easy to port to the other one. in general, you'll only be able to run 86 programs on your calc with maximum compatibility. btw, if i remember the name of the program i mentioned earlier, i'll post it here.
yes NiteStryker, that is basically a NO. there are many games for your calc that you don't really need other calc games to enjoy yours. many popular games from 83 series are ported to 86 anyway.
