Edit
I just want to mention that for my birthday I got a TI-84+ silver from my parents and I'm swapping it for an 89T (or maybe just an 890 monday (since I explained to my father about how it is essentially the same as my current 83+). I'm kinda exited, and I'm definitely going to learn how to program it. Although this did make me feel like quite the geek...

Good choice, as I do not like the 84+SE at all. They're unnessicary and ugly. The 89's are good calculators, especially when you're in a math class beyond calc. Why would you feel like a geek?

BTW: Your new avatar is....interesting, to say the least. :-)

Ugly is the word my man! 89T is also kinda ugly if you ask me. I'd say regular 89 is a better choice than 89T compatibility-wise. Though, if you'd rather prefer more memory then 89T is the way. Btw, you just gotta try out all the cool games for the 89!

Yeah, I have a 89t and it doesn't look as good as the regular 89, but at least it's grey and black, unlike the...strage... color choices TI made on the 84 series.

And the compatilbilty issues are a pain, but as Z said, the extra memory is nice, but it's reduced as patched programs have to be decompressed, which takes at least s 50% memory hit. :-(

Still, it just depends if you want the extra memory (with the compatility issues), or the slightly-outdated, but stable 89.

I'm probably going to settle with the regular 89 if they have it at best buy, i hope they have something, since i didn't even know they had calcs. And yes, I'm very much looking forward to tankers and duke nukem (which i have beaten the retro versions on my computer and loved).
Fortunately, i won't have to buy a new link cable.
And I personally don't mind the design of the 84, but then again, i find the PS2 controller terrible, so my taste is probably really bad.

Oh, yeah, i drew the avatar by myself! Don't ask me where the idea came from, I'm still figuring that out.

Yes, tankers has good gfx, but I don't like how you start over if you're hit. But another good game is 68k hockey, the graphics and gameplay are quite good.

if anyone wants to see the last tankers binaries before i lost the source, you can see it here... The reason i haven't released it is because i didn't quite get done what i wanted to get done... but other than that i suppose it's a lot better than older versions. It actually supports new map formats, but the problem with that is that i lost the new map editor source AND binaries... so no one will be able to make new maps.

Hey B, speaking of T-Ed binaries. I think I have a copy, though I'm not sure if that was the latest version. I can have a look as see if I can find it.

wow, never knew that happened to tankers. The 89 is good, way better for algebra/calculus, but I can't really figure out how to do stats on it, so I ahve to use my 83+.

yay! Z had the (almost) new map editor binaries... so i bundled them up in the same zip (linked to above, or here... Everyone needs to test that to see if it works (do a lot of stuff with the map editor.. saving, opening, etc... and i haven't tried opening old format raw map files)... I'll probably release that on ticalc.org (and here, of course) once i know it all works properly.
