Hurricane Games is currently about to release a horror oriented game about a woman named Janet Smith who has recently bought a house, but little does she know that her house has a grizzly past and it could come back to haunt her...

This is how the game "Ghosts" starts out.
to be released on this site in december, just a little something to get you through school to christmas break!

This isn't a good reason to cancel the game. You can always send a petition when your file is not accepted. There are also other sites that'll host the game even if it doesn't make it here. If you have time and up to finishing the project, by any means do. Anyway, the decision is yours ofcourse but good luck anyway.

Paranoia does have a few edgy subjects. But maybe the author petitioned hard, or the overall quality of the game overshadowed the parts.

It would really depend on the content. You can always write to us so that we can determine whether the game is appropriate. It won't hurt if you ask, we don't just filter out games based on violence, there are in fact quite a few factors we consider. Anyway, once the game is done feel free to email us so that we can review your game and see if can be put into our archives.
Thanks.

I have to admit I am definitely looking into the programs deeper than I did at ticalc, so yeah your program would most likely be accepted there, but I am not going to do anything to jepardize being linked from CG.

You know, it seems that you may be looking too closely to the files being submitted these days. I mean, sure, I agree with not allowing extreme violence, suggestive themes, or programs whose only purpose is to cheat, not allowed into the archive. But try not to be too obsessive with the violence and such. I mean, they're mostly basic menu games, and saying something like "kill" or "gun" isn't, IMHO, stepping outside any boundaries.

Maybe keep this in mind, when games like duke nukem and such exist here, and they're graphical games that actually show you shooting and killing. If menu games with killing are not allowed, why not apply that standard to the entire archive? I would think that not many games would still be here after that purge is complete.

Also, it seems that the main reason TI took away the link about 18 months ago or so was because CG was hosting old OSes for calculators, not necessarily the content of the archive.

That's all I'm going to say right now about this.

Perhaps we need to come up with a certain guidelines or a scheme to determine what files are okay and what not. Maybe like a CG review council :) or something. If you're not sure about some file Morgan, feel free to shoot me or B an email or PM. Same goes to the guys who don't get their file accepted. Anyone is welcome to send a petition via the same method (email or PM) and all of us will review your file. Yes, TI is very strict about the files and other little things so we have to keep things their way to a certain extent. Like I said, please do send petitions so it can be reviewed by all admins. Oh, the games are not just filtered by ones that have killing, its more how exactly its performed and such stuff. If you feel the game is okay for our archive and we should re-review it, then please send us a petition. Perhaps it may be a good idea to create a topic where people can write petitions and all members can discuss them. I'd like some feedback regarding this idea.
Thanks.

This specific game talk about killing "someone" in a text manner, A duke nukum game id different becasue you are trying to kill "bad guys" and aren't targetting specific people. I merely asked him to change 'kill' to 'wound' or something to that effect. To me graphical games where you kill objects and stuff to get to the next level is much diffeent that killing someone to get the clothes off their back for example. So in summary text violence bad, graphical killing is ok in games, and og course there is some stuff that is just plain obvious. It means a lot more if you say you are going to kill a person.

But yes Z, the ideas you suggested are good. I will send any requests where the uploader refuses to change it to you for second opinion. Like I said, I don;t want to be the reason we loose our good relations with CG, especially since I am new. The forum thingie sounds good as well.

Why do you guys keep saying they took the link away from the TI website. If you go to students, then to games, CG is one of the links.

Its back now. They got nice again.
An interesting idea:
You should have 3 people okay a game to be added to the archives. A majority vote would be needed for the game to be added. Maybe E-mail could be used, or a password protected forum with links to the files in question. If it doesn't make it... then they can petition for it, maybe.

If I had my own site to upload programs I would allow anythign that I didn't think was competely stupid! Heck I have made my own asm fake memory clearing program before, so I'm into all those kinds of programs, but considering the circumstances, I am going to be scanning the programs...

I didn't say the link was taken away, I said it could be taken away. As far as having 3 admins review a game before its added, this would add an extra month to the upload time I think based off of what I have heard.

There's an easy solution ot this, stop being so darn violent and make a positive type of game type of game. For example 'Drug Wars' --> 'Calc Wars'

3 admins reviewing each file? Talk about a bottleneck in the upload approval system.

EDIT: Wait, I reread the post, having all admins vote, so with a quorum of 5, that would take a while, and cause a problem when B leaves.

i agree with the whole filtering out the violent games and i probably did go into to much detail. it's just, i submitted a game that is totally harmless and it used the word "kill" like 4 or 5 times and all it was for was to TRY to kill hobos, monkeys, and penguins. you don't even get because you die if you try to, you know like a hidden lesson for the players.
