Total Posts: 321 | A couple years back I saw a blue/clear 83+SE and today in calss a guy busted out a green/clear one! It looked hella sweet! I'm sleightly pissed the 86 doesn't come in that :-) I had to settle for a red clide case :-/ |

Total Posts: 2007 | Heeh, those things were released by Target, I believe, as a promotional thing. I bet you could get a green faceplate for the 83+, but probably not the 86. You know, I think TI needs to come out with an 86+ that has all the same things as the 86 and maintains backwards compatibility, but has flash ROM, clock, faster processor, etc. I'd buy that. |

And as for the 86+, yeah, I would be on that really quick. I just want it to be able to 'compile' a Basic program just a lil faster. That was my only complaint with them. |

Total Posts: 321 | Seriously there would be no way in hell I would buy an 86+ nor do I believe they should make one. The only thing I wish the 86 had more of was ram, but you couldn't increase that and keep absolutely everything compatible.
When you start giving calculators more possibilities (flash) they get more complicated to use, have more bugs in ASM programs, and it is just unnessecary. You learn after a while that if a program has a bug that erases your RAM to not put it on there anymore.
Think about this...how many times have you heard people ask about Ion and MirageOS? For the new novice user it is way too complicated to figure out. Adding flash to the 86 would make everything uncompatible and there aren't enough developers out there to come up with a good base of program for a so called 86+.
If you don't believe me just look at how the 89 Titanium impacted he community...just how difficult is it for knowledged calcultor users to get programs working (let alone bug free ones) on their calculator, not with standing novice users.

The 86 is the easiest TI graphing calculator to use as a user is concerned. It has never required a shell at any time in its existance, thus its compatibility has been consistant across the board. Everything ever written for it will work on any 86.

Which in my point of view may be a reason why the 86 is not as popular. Lets face it the 83+ has some serious problems, so much in factthat people need to talk about it all the time to resolve issues. The 86 on the other hand is so easy to use that, there is no need for conversation and thus if nobody talked about it, it slowly became more extinct. |

Total Posts: 199 | I agree with Morgan- I was thinking about an 86+, but I realized that once RAM is added, everything pretty much loses compatability. I love the 86 - When you program for it, you don't have to worry about any shells. And rather than entering commands using menus, you can simply type it in. I know the 83 or 82 needs to be programmed using commands from menus (IE you cant type "Input" you need to find it in a menu) It'd be cool if they made a faster CPU though - compatibility would not be lost, just some games would be harder to to crazy speed. |

btw, it was just a regular 83+ that was green and blue, and even Staples had all the 83+ colors (I was stupid, I got the black one :))

The 86 is unpopular because TI hates it. There will never be an 86+ for the same reason. |
