I am trying to backlight my 83+, but im at a snag. There is an aluminum plate behind the LCD. When i try removing it, the LCD starts to chip. Any advise on how i might get the plate off without damageing the LCD?

You could probably just place a bunch of led's on both sides of the screen which could provide enough light... Getting the screen foil off is somewhat difficult as I imagine it could be glued more strongly on select calcs.

I don't know much about it, but doesn't the act of removing the plate behind the screen screw up the LCD in itself? I was thinking that it couldn't function without it.
