I have a TI-83+SE and it has ten times more memory than it should....I know that because my friend has a 83+SE and his memory is way less than mine even when both calculators are totally cleared out with no programs (or APPS) in them. Can anyone tell me why, and if you know, can you tell me if i can make other calculators do the same thing??? Thanx

I am calculating it now, but if you do know, originally when there are not K's (as in kilobites) the calculator has no label, wether it be megabites or whatnot. do you know what that the label is?

ha ha wouldnt ya know it, i tried adding all of the numbers together on a different TI-83+ and it was too big of a number to add.... it wasnt in kilos tho. i could tell you easily otherwise, but i have way too many things in my archive, and i cannot delete any of them because they are all important. I have 123 things archived, and 42 of them are apps.

well, i would, but im still in school, and im the guy who supplies everyone with games, and the apps they need. I even supply the teachers with stuff they need for their calculators, i fix calculators with minor problems also. (i even have fixed ones where the batteries have exploded in them. i guess im kina handy and if i get rid of the stuff then it wouldnt be a good thing lol. it really helps to have that much memory! lol

you do realize that the ti84+SE has superior memory... rite? all RAMs will have 24000 at most (with nothing in the calc), and the ROM should have 1.35MB of ROM if nothing is in it. Fairly superior, would you say?

not only "superior" but way faster! for some TI games i create I will ask the user to tell what kinda calc he/she owns so that I can adjust the some for loops that "wait" like to give some reaction time but i have found that a program runs very differently on a 84+se from a 83+se especially if it is a game based heavily on auto-moving with for loops defining the time to wait in between the moves :) hope that made since

As far as I know, the 83+SE, the 84+ and 84+SE all have 15mhz processors. Also, he said both calculators are 83+SE, so the memory should be the same.

the processors are faster in the ti84+se. that is why kevin oullet's XXR must find what version u are using, then change the speed to suit.

yes, that all is true, but the main point is when both ti-83+SE's are totally emptied of any apps or programs, mine has more memory. I was just wondering why that was.... Maybe it was a glitch when they made the calculator. I was also wondering if anyone else had the same kind of issue. thanx for the help

LiK: I'm getting a bit tired of you acting like you know what you're talking about when you don't. I'm also tired of that avatar. I thought we asked you to change it months ago; I guess we never got around to actually communicating it to you. That is most certainly not an appropriate avatar for our website since it is viewed in a lot of schools. Take your avatar back to 4chan where it belongs.

Back to my point. The 83+ SE, 84+, and 84+ SE *ALL* have 6/15MHz dual-speed processors. ONLY the 83+, without the SE, has a 6MHz-only processor. Also, the 83+ SE and 84+ SE have the EXACT same amount of memory in them. If anything, I'd say the 84+ SE would have LESS free memory as the OS may use more RAM on it than the 83+ SE (I doubt it does, though). The 83+ SE and 84+ SE should have a little more than 24000 bytes of RAM and 1.5 MB of Archive after a full reset.

All 83x calculators max out at 24376 bytes of free RAM, and the SE's have the 1.5 meg archive chips, compared to the paltry 168k of the regular TI-83. ANd since the archive is nothing but long-term storage, there is nothing "superior", so to speak, about the memory of the TI-84+SE.

um... 1)i have only had this avatar for less than a month.2)i dont know where this pic is from. i've had in my archives for years.3)"Take your avatar back to 4chan where it belongs." i dont know what 4chan is.4) i just realized i miss read that he has a TI83+SE and not a ti84+se like i thought. i=sorry. and i talked to andy, and he says my avatar is alrite and there is nothing wrong with it; its nothing to worry about. if there was really a problem, there would be a pm about it in my box, however, there isnt. So i deduce it is not that big of a problem.
5)"That is most certainly not an appropriate avatar for our website since it is viewed in a lot of schools." viewed in alot of schools? what school shows anime... i wanna go... and if it IS shown in alot of schools, that would impley that it IS appropriate, for anything in school is appropiate. I mean...c'mon, they dont even let you chew gum in school, so their rules are strict. I dont know what the big deal is. if there is a problem, tell me EXACTLY when your bif is and i will change it, beacause of right now, this avatar represents my name, Liebe ist Krieg.

hey, now that we are talking about what we are *tired* of, im tired of 3fg's avatar. try looking at the name of the html of where that pic is located, and tell me thats not inappropiate, and we will have an understanding.

if you need help finding it, try "View Image".

I've recieved a PM from an admin congratulating me on the url for the image.
Also, I know more about the hardware than you do, don't try to act like you know more.

That's awesome. I never looked at the filename for his avatar before. I congratulate him for it.

Change yours. I never said it was perfectly alright.

L, I have to correct you on this... The actual chip in the 83+ is 512KiB (it has to hold the OS too), and I'd bet the one in the 83+SE/84+SE is actually 2MiB but I could be wrong on this one. It has to be bigger than 1.5MiB though. :P

Programs take up memory the bigger the program the more memory they will take up

@Andy: I was talking in terms of user-accessible RAM, which is necessarily the same. I know the RAM chip on the 83+SE/84+/84+SE is bigger :) .

Edit
They may have the same processors, and possibly the same processing speeds, but when I run the same program on the 83+SE and the 84+ the 83+SE beats the 84+ drawing out sprites and what not. Just my experience with the processor speeds...

Yep. If you get your OSes to behave the same (downgrade one or upgrade the other) then they will move at the same speed. The discontinuity checker probably is the main reason for that.

Hmm, i did think it was funny that my calc actually put the discontinuity hole in there, and my friend's calc just conected the dots. I thought mine was special for a while : )

Archive things. If you mean get more than 24kb of ram, then you are out of luck.

Rip your calc open, take out the RAM chip, sodder in a better one, and completely re-write the OS to account for the changes. The last part may be a bit tricky, but the rest is a breeze.

i just rewired my calc to my nuclear powered computer with triple intell procesor, thats all you really need to do. gives me 3 gigs of RAM.

By that theory, more processors + nuclear power = more RAM? Interesting idea... ;)

i downloaded a game and it is the game where you run from the PRGM menu. about half way through it says ERR archived. When i go to unarchive it it isn't archived so i don't know what is wrong with it.

That means one of the requisite programs/variables is archived. Read the readme and unarchive all the variables/programs the main program needs to run.
