I was wondering how you mod a pc game. I was going to try to mod Freelancer. I was also wondering if there was any laws dealing with mods.

In most countries selling harmful things like drugs is punishable. Then howcome people can sell Microsoft software and go unpunished? (By hasku@rost.abo.fi, Hasse Skrifvars http://www.linuxweb.com/lw_quotes.html)

As to how, not really sure.

As to legality... If it does not say anywhere in the game manual, or on their website, or any documentation on the CD, then I would guess you could do it so long as you did not try to make money off of the mods.

I would suggest you do some research. Each game is different. Find out if any one else has made a mod for it and study it.

Pretty much it is a lot of guessing and checking.

If you are worried about legality. As long as you do not try to sell the mod or take credit away from the makers of the game, then you are ok.

It is much easier to suggest solutions when you know nothing about the problem.

For freelancer... it's all legal and stuff. Most of the simple modding is done via editing .ini files.

Lancersreactor used to be the big modHQ for the game. Not sure if it is anymore.
