So I was writing in PHP and using My SQL and but recently I had a friend that lived and died by ASP.NET and MS SQL and he showed me some of the cool stuff you can do with it

I have MS SQL + Visual Studios (Back from when I had a M$ certified friend who got free/cheep copies of everything legally - aren't they the best?) and I host my own stuff so Cost is no object but I'd like to get some more input.

I have a book the size of the whole wheel of time series stuck together (if you haven't read it go and buy the first one and start reading - just know they are long) on C# and ASP.NET 2.0 and I am mucking through it and doing examples etc. but before I jump in head first I would just like to know what you guys think

I say go for it. The worst that can happen is that you will learn something. Personally I'm a networking freak. Don't know why. It's just something about VLSM that calls me. lol

It is much easier to suggest solutions when you know nothing about the problem.
