1====
Ok, so I started to use WMM (windows movie maker) to edit some videos, piece together, and publish. Well anyways, on my computer every time I work on something, after about 5 minutes, WMM will randomly freeze, forcing me to ctrl + alt + delete and end the task. Once it has had its 5 minute freeze, i can't run it again for more than 5 seconds or it freezes. After restarting the computer it usually works for another 5 minutes b4 freezing AGAIN. I tried WMM with the same footage on one of my other computers and it works fine. Anyways I specifically want to use this computer, but its freezing, anyone have any ideas what it is? this computer is new and has plenty of memory (RAM), hard drive space, etc.

2====
also, every time i try to save the project as a movie file (publish it) it always says that the original files can't be found. I know this is wrong b/c all i have to do is import a 20 second vid, and immediately publish and it has the same error. Now any footage from my video camera works, its .ASF, but any footage from other sources don't work (they are usually .AVI). Why can't WMM realize that i have not changed the location of these files and just publish the movie???

At risk of this sounding like a flame/troll, WMM is a piece of crap. Seriously. There are many better, 100% free programs available. I once made a 5-minute video that should have taken about 30 minutes of work to put together, but with all the random crashes and problems, it took me more than four hours.

Seriously, save yourself a lot of hassle, and google for something else.

Various platforms, various types of editors. I personally used to use Avid DV, a free, feature-reduced (but still quite featured) version of the Avid software, however I just visited their site, and it is apparently now discontinued :(

Also, if you plan to do video editing later on in life, I would take the chance to learn Premier if I were you.

I have an old computer from 2002 and WMM works great-I don't know what the problem would be.Try saving the .AVIs as .ASFs.

I recently used WMM and didn't have many problems with it. It froze once, maybe twice, and I really didn't mind all that much. There was once or twice when it would freeze up, but then start working again.

Did versions of Windows before Windows XP have WMM on them? I can't remember...

Anyway, I would say that if it isn't working out for you, go for one of the third party software programs. Or reinstall Windows with formatting the drive... I'm sure that'll fix things to a certain degree. :-)
