Edit January 27, 2008: Project is grayscale, ASM-based, and delayed for about two months.

If you've ever heard of Pitfall! from the Atari 2600, I'm remaking it in TI-83+ BASIC, played on the homescreen. It would be absurdly slow if it weren't for the fact that hardly any computing is being done during the main loop of the game. Instead, each level is loaded just before by compiling a 16-frame animation (which takes up the whole screen) on the spot. On my 83+, the game's running at around 2.5 frames per second. Since I barely have anything left to add to that loop, I'm kinda happy.

Everything that was in the original (vines, moving quicksand, lakes, rolling barrels, crocodiles, snakes, treasure, holes, ladders, undergroundedness, underground walls, scorpions, 256 levels) should be in my version, excluding the barrels. If I were to include those, level-loading would take an impractically long amount of time. I might make a barrel version for those who would really want it, but the rest of the game comes first :D).

I'll put up screenshots as soon as I can borrow a link cable. Right now, I'd call this project around 70% done (I have yet to type in all those levels from the original). How does it sound?

I'm almost done with the splash screen (a b&w version of that thing). Since the original image looks terrible when black-and-whiteness is bestowed upon it, I'm redrawing it myself.

If anyone's wondering why I haven't done anything more with Pitfall!, I was disrupted by my sudden comprehension of ASMy things. I'll probably remake as my first real Assembly project, which means that it'll have everything the original did, only shoved into a 96x64-pixel space.

Does anyone feel like making sprites for this? Just in case there's a taker, here's what's needed:

8x16:
Harry running, 5-sprites long
standing
climbing, 2 sprites
swinging
midair (jumping)

8x8:
gold bar, 2 sprites
silver bar, 2
barrel, 2
snake, 2
scorpion, 2
brick wall
diamond ring
moneybag
croc head shut
croc head open

If you don't know what the sprites are supposed to look like, there's info all over the place (Wikipedia, AtariAge, ect.).

Oh, I can't afford to picky about them anyway. Since I have no link cable, I'll end up converting the sprites by hand, which means I'd probably end up modifying the ones that need to be modified.

Well, sweet! I've just finished memorizing all the opcodes for the Z80, which means that I can start really working on this. Sprites first...

I've just finished making the 3-level grayscale 8x8 sprite editor (approximately 220 lines of code), which has GetCSC as the only ROM call used. I won't submit it unless I'm given more of a reason to, since it's crudely done and only uses the top left part of the screen. But, since the sprite editor's here, the spritemaking can begin. Again, if anyone wants to be included, this game can be made faster with some sprite help...

Yeah, well, it'll be worse in the WAR thread if nobody posts for another month. I've already double posted at least twice trying to save that topic.

I would suggest writing you own Getcsc call because TI's has extra stuff that you don't need. Or you could use direct Key press detection which i think would be better for this project.

well I knew about that. I go insane. I need a flame board on this site. So that I can just rant and go on tangents at least 2 times a month. If the admins would add that sort of board *ahem* then I would have no need to flame. They could call it. 1337h4kor's flaming show and anyone who wishes to flame also.

Zunes are for manly men of manness. Just look at how big it is. It can be dropped from 10 feet and not break. Can the iPood do that? Really can it?

but with the zune you can easily make it a small portable hardrive. Wait I just remember that. Thankyou for making me think of that. My zune has a 30 gig hard drive and thus I can save my computer. Thanks a lot Hydra for that.

P.S.
The zune has more hacks and mods.

I have an old generation 1 Zune. I realized as I was typing. I forgot about the explorer regs I added. Well my comp is going on 4 years old. Plus it's a laptop and thus the HDD is only 37.5 gig, also I've never used more than 20 gig in my life. So ya, it'll work for now. I love hacking microsoft products and writing new reg files.

I've been tied up with college audition preparation since the beginning of the schoolyear. Once they're over, I'll probably continue with Pitfall! and AGZAC. I'm currently way too busy to worry about either, though.

Grr, Hydralisk, you're shooing away my enthusiasts! :)
