<british accent>

I would like to say then (politely, of course), that you all suck.

</british accent>

Was that friendly enough? And also, for anybody that cares, I'm back down to my original three browsers (FF, IE and Opera). To give you a heads up, although Maxthon comes with some nice features, its all too similar to IE, and it has a huge amount of toolbars that take up screen space (and for me with a 13" screen, it really gets annoying). You can get rid of them, but meh. Minefield is quite good, but its essentially the same as FF 1.5, so probably not worth upgrading if you're strapped for time/bandwidth. The only noticable difference is the aforementioned automatic spellchecker (although some people here could really use it...). Aside from that, like I said, not worth the time fo the upgrade.

EDIT: I figured as I did mention some Minefield features, I should mention the "nice features" I was referring to with Maxthon. The first is Weatherbug, which is actually a separate program that tells you the weather (similar the the TouchTheSky widget). It comes in the whole package when you download and install it. Really, to know the weather, you could just look out the window. The second thing worth mentioning is the "Utilities" button, which enables access to My Computer and My Document right from the browser.

I swear, this is not an advertisement, it is a personal review. My advice: stick with Opera.

I prefer IE myself, but the only other browser I have used is Netscape. I despise Netscape. But I haven't taken the time to try any others, so the jury is still out.

You should give Opera a try. The new version has widgets, and while I haven't gotten around to checking, I think there would be a weatherbug one. I had the weatherbug widget for my dashboard on Mac OSX. It is useful, it started beeping and flashing one day. I clicked it and it said a tornado was coming. I turned off the computer and lo and behold one appeared. It wasn't very close, but the hail damaged the powerlines. Thanks, weatherbug!

Edit: Opera has the Touchthesky widget.

IE and FF here...mostly IE since I'm kinda used to it but for some slower website FF does a better job. Compatibility is fine by me and I can really care less about the small extra features here and there (tabs, rss and all that). As long as its fast and it works I'm ok with that and being an fps gamer I don't have any trouble moving my mouse around, in fact it actually sometimes even keeps me awake :). My 2 cents...

My FF runs faster than most because i bought a book on how to tweak it and followed it's instructions and now it loads pages much faster.

I could. I pmed someone else a long time ago on how to do it, but i forgot who it was. But if your pm box saves outgoing pm's i can forward the instructions to you. If not, i'll re-type it.

Edit: Upon further inspection of my sent mail box, I realized that I sent the pm to someone on Calchaven, not CG. And CH 2.0, which is now effectively cyberdust, so i'll have to re-peruse my book-o-firefox-hacks and then pm you.

i gave opera a try. yes, it is the fastest ive had, ever. but it wouldnt load certain pages, or download files i need, and i couldnt watch vids. it was tire some when i try and start it up, and it wont start. i hit ctrl-alt-delet and i see the processes, but its not in the applications. so the only way i could use opera is by clicking the 'no' box in the "do you want to make this your default browser" dialog box. so then i deleted it and got firefox. an now i dl'd some sweet extensions for FF that expand the capabillities. its great. so opera is fast, just not user friendly.

I go for IE. It starts up fast, the newer version will support tabbed browsing, and it just already supports most things by default.

I tried Firefox, and it's a great browser, and the download manager is really nifty, but it has to be repeatedly and painstakingly upgraded to bring it to IE's level, and for me, its support for Flash and Java is poor, and has a tendency to take up over 80,000k of memory when running, and when one window has an error, Firefox takes out all the windows and downloads with it.

wow... i have nvr had those problems... like.. none. seriously.
it never takes more than 13k to run, and that only takes 1-2% of my comps power. its nice. and i have never had to dl upgrades... my flash is super good, and java runs perfectly fast and accurate. so, maybe its your comps ability to support FF.

Neither Opera nor Firefox will play vids when you first download them, they have no plugins. It downloads all files. All browsers download all files. You must be a complete idiot if you couldn't figure out how to make it download files. Opera opens faster than FF and never crashes for me. I guess what's happening is PEBKAC. The extensions in FF are not backwards compatible and introduce bugs, huge ram usage, and instability to FF. Opera's extensions do not.

hmmm, my extensions dont use alot of RAM... actually, almost none at all, and i have alot of them. you must have got a real old versoin of FF, which is most likely y you dont like FF. and i did dl all needed extensions and plug-ins for opera. it still didnt load certain web pages and didnt play certain vids. but FF played alot of stuff with out one single dl... so im happy.

If you consider firefox being better owning, then yeah, let's go with that. Discalimer: By better, I mean I like it better, I really don't care what the rest of you think, I'm sticking with ff forever.

i got a new computer, and opera still wont start, so if by the "best" browser you mean "unable to use", then yes, opera is the "best".

What is wrong with your computer? Did you install Opera? Then it will work perfectly. This sounds like PEBKAC all the way.
